External Bearings

An introduction to external Bearings

External bearings are used to reduce the wear and tear on the servo’s gearbox due to the side loads experienced on the output gear. With modern aircraft getting sleeker and as a result much thinner wings, the servos are too!! yep! the same torque on much smaller servos as a result putting more strain on the bearing of the output gear/spline, this can be a problem for the output gears whether or not they have an internal bearing inside the servo case.

An external bearing will rejuvenate old servos and help to increase the lifespan of new ones by reducing the amount of side loading on the output shaft.

Our type 1 and type 2 external bearing shafts have a 4mm hexagon at both ends with a 5mm shaft diameter to fit inside the bearing. These have been designed for easy install and removal where space is tight.
